Demonica Lucifina Cthulha

Baby Demonica was a lock-down project. I had been long desiring to try my hand at a demon baby and even had a body on hand, but just never got around to it. She was intended for my collection, but a friend fell in love with her during the sculpting process, so she turned into an Xmas present.

This friend is also the one who gave Demonica her first name. The middle names are my fault.

My current plan is to make a nice 1:1 scale 12 month old 100% original sculpture for myself some day... some day.

Baby Demonica's lumps and protrusions were made using two-part Apoxie Sculpt.

I wasn't too sure what my vision was for her. I knew I wanted horns, but the rest was improv.

I was particularly pleased with her barnacles. They seemed so itchy and gross.

I masked off her fabric bits and then there was the problem of how to hold her for painting.

A bit of string turned out to be sufficient.

Baby Demonica, post-primer. Things always look so much better after the primer coat - the additions now look like one piece with her face.

I went a bit too colourful the first time.

I ended up spraying a new base over this and starting over completely.

The new face looked a bit more to my taste.

Adding some delicate veining and a touch more shading

The lumps and protrusions are beginning to pop now.

The eyes were built up over several layers

I toyed with the idea of making the whites bloodshot, but decided in the end to leave them simply shaded.

She was particularly unsettling at this stage.

The irises were built up with layers of green and gold and then heavily glossed.

The hair is wisps of mohair which were added strand by strand.

Not the greatest picture, but I think it shows off her dress the best.

The dress was hand-sewn by myself and the lace covers most of my inadequacies as a seamstress.

Look at that little face!

She also has a few encrustations on her face and body with protruding hair.

I think her hair is one of my favourite features. It's perfectly dry, but it gives the impression of damp and slime.

It always gets the most disgusted responses from the general public.

I don't fancy trying to clip those nails.

Showing off her precious little elbow spikes

Lumpy, hair baby feets

Ten little pink toesies. I should have made it 13.

And the bitsy heelspikes.

On our way to Letham Craft Shop to pick out fabric for a blankie. (the child loaned one of his for the occasion)

I didn't find what I had in mind at the craft shop, but I did manage to find something nice at a charity shop.

All packed up and ready to wrap.

The carrier was a bit of a joke, but it also makes a nice, breathable storage box for her.

Wrapped and ready for Xmas!

Of course I couldn't send Demonica to her new home without a proper adoption certificate.

Instead of a signature, it is signed in "blood" with the thumbprint from each party.
