Footnotes: An Eccentric Hobby

The Eccentric Gentleman
The eccentric gentleman of our tale seemed rather familiar to me from the start. One day, while driving home it suddenly struck me, I had been reading Tales of Terror and Mystery By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle just before my tanuki arrived and when I was casting around for an interesting and plausible way for our farm to acquire some Japanese wildlife, the plot of The Brazilian Cat must have influenced me subconsciously.

Our collection is Japanese rather than Brazilian/South American and our eccentric gentleman was more likely to kill you with boredom than with a panther, but both men were enthusiastic collectors with too much time and money on their hands.

The Lisa Frank Unicorn Poster Analogy
For those who are unfamiliar with the fads which swept up American children in the late 1980s and 1990s, Lisa Frank was *the* artist for the school supplies of young girls. For your folder or notebooks, it was Lisa Frank or it was garbage.

Her designs feature bright colours, doe-eyed unicorns, and other fantasy creatures. A quick Google search will give you the general idea...and retina burn.

The events in Stolen! were loosely inspired by a chapter from The Lady a novel by Anne McCaffrey. I highly recommend anything she's written. Her son, not so much.
