Category List
This is a quick reference resource for our topic categories and what can be found within each one.
History:
Singles Assortment - This is the collection of models which are sold in individual blister packs. Originally called the Stablemate Series, this group has since been variously called assortments or singles. In the 1970s and 1980s, multiple colours on each mold would be produced, but since then the assortment has settled into a collection of twelve different molds, each in one colour. Posts will contain group pictures of each group in release order and discuss the colours available and details of release.
Gift Set - These contain three or more (usually up to six) models and do not come with any accessories. Sets of this type have also been called Gift Packs, Collections, or just (Name of run) Sets. I consider the Mare/Foal sets Gift Set subgroups and will be discussing them under that heading. Also falling under the Gift Set heading are the special run releases of 10-12 models from Sears and JCPenney, frequently referred to as "Stablemate Assortments" and most recently, "Parade of Breeds".
Play Set - As the name implies, these sets come with accessories to use with your models during play. Sets generally contain one to three models, but have been known to come with more or even none. They are sometimes just referred to as (Name of run) Sets. Some major subgroups of the Play Set topic that we'll be discussing are the Little Red Stables, Pocket Barns, and Games.
Singles - This is sort of the miscellaneous drawer of the topics. There are a handful of models, usually special runs that were either released completely by themselves or packaged with a non-Breyer item. Keychains also fall under this heading.
Footnotes
Instead of discussing a particular release category, these posts will cover topics which affected the line in general - mold stamps, mold changes, packaging, etc. - in other words, topics which would normally be footnotes in the Stablemate history.
Individual Mold Topics:
Conga! - A conga in the model horse world refers to a collection of multiple examples of one mold. Often a conga collector will seek to acquire all of the runs available for a certain mold. As you would expect, these posts will show the various Stablemate molds in their congas. Conga! posts are followed by their Look-Alikes post the next week.
Look-Alikes - With so many Stablemates being released and only a finite number of horse colours available, there are bound to be some runs that very closely resemble one another. These posts are meant to provide a bit of a guide to identifying which is what.
Profile - Profile posts are lighter fare. These posts will highlight one model from a run, show pictures from both sides, list its statistics (run name, number, mold, length of run, etc.) and possibly discuss some points of interest such as colour genetics and/or breed assignment.
Variation Spotlight - These posts, as the title implies, will spotlight the variations in a particular run. These are only models I possess myself; this is not meant to be taken as a comprehensive list of variations.
Variation Gallery - These posts consist of pictures donated by other collectors of one particular run in an effort to document a sample of the range of variations in existence.
Side Topics:
Side topics are often general blog announcements, but in the future may include a tour of my collection, pictures and discussion of my photo studio set-up, how-to posts, organization tips, and other topics outside of the Stablemate timeline.
